Jackie Appiah explains why she can't speak twi

The actress who hails from the Ashanti Region revealed that due to where she was brought up and the kind of job she does, many see her to be someone who has lost touch with her local dialect.
Jackie claims that she does understand every word in the Akan language and can quote a number of proverbs to back her claims but the only issue is that she is not fluent when it comes to delivery.
“I can speak twi, I understand but I’m not able to flow as others do, maybe due to my upbringing. I have a Canadian background so that could be one of the reasons.”, she explained.
She also said that her situation was not alleviated by the fact that she works mainly with people who communicated with her in only English.
“Another is that I mingle with people who speak English and that also is not helping me but don’t worry I know my roots.
For all you know, I might produce a twi movie one of these days,” she said in an interview with Highlifetoday.
We don’t know what prompted the mother of one and former ambassador of telecommunication network Glo to make such revelations, but we can only hope that she gets better in her birth language.

One Corner: It’s unfair to blame Patapaa for irresponsible behaviours – Lydia Forson

Actress, Lydia Forson has kicked against any attempt to blame musician Patapaa, for the deaths and accidents that have occurred due to his ‘One Corner’ dance.
She noted that it is simply not fair to blame Patapaa for the irresponsible behaviours of people who dance to his song.
Her defence for the musician follows reports that two people, who were on a motorbike dancing to ‘One Corner’, met their untimely death at Ntotroso, a mining town in the Asutifi North District of Brong-Ahafo Region.
The accident, according to a GNA report, occurred around midnight on Tuesday.
The two were on the motorbike dancing to the tune when their bike reportedly skid off the road and crashed into a structure.
‘One Corner’, is the biggest song in Ghana currently. The dance craze has seen people go gaga by either perching on whatever object is before them, go under cars, chairs or whatever while others isolate themselves on the ground to do a wild gyrating move.
Reacting to the reports of deaths and criticisms of the dance by some people, including UK-based gospel musician Sonnie Badu and renowned broadcaster and showbiz personality, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD), the actress said Patapaa should not be faulted.
“It’s not fair to blame this guy for the irresponsible behaviours of people,” she told Doreen Andoh in an interview on the Cosmopolitan Mix on Joy FM Friday.
She advised that people who dance to the song should rather “be responsible.”
According to her the ‘One Corner’ craze took her by surprise.
She noted that, she is a fun of crazy social media trends that is why she recently joined social media fanatics to do the ‘Ladder Challenge’.

NIVEA attack: Fuse ODG goofed – George Quaye

Television personality and communication expert, George Quaye asserts that Fuse ODG’s attack on a NIVEA product could have been avoided if the artiste had researched on the communication style and product history of the producers.

Fuse ODG on Wednesday mounted a campaign against the NIVEA Natural Fairness Body Lotion, calling on Nivea to pull down its billboards that seem to suggest it is best for one to have a fairer skin. His post got tongues wagging, attracting other celebrities including Ama K. Abebrese and Reggie Rockstone to join the call, www.abrantepa.com observed.

But speaking on Daybreak Hitz, Thursday, George Quaye said Fuse ODG and the other campaigners overreacted.

“When you are going to criticise a product or an ad, you need to check the product history and their communication style over the years. Anybody that uses Nivea will tell you that when they are doing their adverts, they do not necessarily speak to the effects of using the product. They speak to the skin type that should use the product. I have seen one that actually says, ‘for dry skin’. Some even have ‘for very dry skin’. Are you telling me that if I use that product, my skin is going to get dry?” he queried.

“If Fuse had done a little research on the product history, communication style over the years, he probably wouldn’t have taken the tangent he did take. Are we saying we don’t have people with visibly light skin in Ghana? What about Nadia Buari, Joselyn Duma? They have lighter skin. What is wrong with producing a product that will get that skin for being damaged? I think he overacted a little bit,” he added.
George Quaye however stated that there is somewhat ambiguity in the communication style of the German personal care brand that specializes in skin- and body-care and ought to be checked.

“I do agree that the communication is a little bit ambiguous especially for those who do not know their style of communication… Nivea really needs to check that ambiguity because not everybody will know all Nivea products,” he noted.

Meanwhile, NIVEA in a statement say the campaign is in no way meant to demean or glorify any person’s needs or preferences in skin care.

Patapaa applies for passport, readies for 'One corner' international shows

Swedru-based artiste, Patapaa has been spotted at the Accra Passport Center processing his document in readiness for international shows.

He was seen wearing a blue t-shirt on a white trouser, with his signature white handkerchief wrapped around his right arm.
Known in private life as Justice Amoah, the artiste has swept off Ghanaians off their feet with his single hit ‘One corner.’
The song has become the favourite of many and can be heard blaring with people busily gyrating to it at funerals, wedding ceremonies, street jams and naming ceremonies.
US-based Ghanaian gospel musician, Sonnie Badu had raised concerns about the nature of dance that accompanies the song.
“It’s getting dangerous,” he said. “I saw someone climb an electric pole, I saw someone climb a tipper truck, and I saw someone run under a car.”
Sonnie Badu believes something had to be done because things are now “getting out of hand.”
But the song is reportedly getting some traction in Nigeria with some big names in the country’s music industry dancing to it.
Artiste Reekado Banks, currently on the Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, was captured in a video joining the craze.
He was later to write on Instagram: “The #OneCorner virus hit us while in the studio. We couldn’t resist it.”
The acceptance of the ‘One Corner’ song outside Ghana might soon be followed by invitations to perform at international shows and Patapaa has shown he does not want to miss out on that.
It is not clear when his passport might be ready, but it is clear he will get several invitations to perform at shows during Christmas.

If I Die I’ll Be Remembered As An Ashaiman Hero — Stonebwoy

Livingstone Etse Satekla, aka Stonebwoy, is definitely the biggest export Ashaiman gave to Ghana and after holding his massive concert last week, Stonebwoy has granted himself legendary status.
Speaking on stage at the concert, the dancehall star said that if he dies, he’ll die a hero to all the people of Ashaiman.

Stonebwoy organized and pulled off ‘Ashaiman to the World’ last weekend in his adopted home town, with the event held at an outdoor venue to get as many patrons in as possible.
It was a sort of thank-you event from the artist to the town which shaped him into who he has become.
Singing to an adoring crowd, Stonebwoy said — “Wherever I go, the first thing that, comes out of my mouth is Ashaiman, am not afraid, I don’t feel shy that, I am an Ashaiman boy.”

“I feel too proud to have emerged from Ashaiman and would not hesitate to continue to broadcast that, to let the world know that Ashaiman too has good stuff.
“Brothers you see, if I die for Ashaiman today, I no say I be hero.” he added.

This is why Kumi Guitar performed in a wheelchair at Ashaiman last Saturday

Performers always ponder over how to sweep audience of their feet and when it is well executed, they are applauded.

Over the years, we have witnessed crazy entries from artistes – Kwaw Kese ironing his dress right on stage, Shatta Wale on a sick bed, Eno appearing from a coffin and Obour showing up in a pot!
Well, highlife artiste, Kumi Guitar was in a wheelchair while performing his hit song, ‘Dream’ at Stonebwoy’s ‘Ashaiman to the World’ concert, Saturday.
‘Dream’ talks about Kumi Guitar’s dream to see highlife retake its rightful place on the pedestal of Ghanaian music.
Sitting in a wheelchair and subsequently rising appears to depict the crippled status of highlife music and the hope of its recovery.

Baby Blanche confirms she wears no panties

Ghanaian actress, Baby Blanche has disclosed the fact that she does not wear panties. She made this revelation in an interview with Andrew Tandoh Adote on the TONIGHT show.

The lady who is the brain behind the ‘operation remove your dross now’ campaign attested to the fact that her campaign is an actual reflection of what she does.

“I practice what I preach. Fact that you practice it does not mean you should go about telling everybody about it”, she said.

Blanche said the initiative is being taken out of context. She explained that the campaign arose from a need she saw to enlighten ladies on the fact that wearing panties and other underwear under the ‘harsh’ weather conditions in the country increases their chances of getting candidiasis infections.

The campaign is to help ‘some sisters’ out there, she explained.

Quizzed on how she felt about Akuma Mama Zimbi’s critique of the movement, she said ‘She’s someone I admire. I felt she didn’t listen to the details of my campaign. The theme alone made her come out.”
She added that if Akuma had paid more attention to the movement, she would not have made some of those comment.

“I feel if she had listened more to what I was trying to say and weighed her options, she would have agreed with me to a certain extent.”

Baby Blanche explained that she accepts the fact that not everyone will agree with her adding that she sees Akumaa a mother figure and so is not much bothered about her comments.

She remarked that in addition to donating some stuff to people all the time, she could go about creating awareness of this nature in order to “help some sisters.”

Stonebwoy's wife falls victim to knife attack at 'Ashaiman to the World' concert

Stonebwoy’s wife Louisa went home wounded last night after the dance hall artiste’s ‘Ashaiman to the World’ concert that took place yesterday.

The concert which was held at the Sakasaka Park at Ashaiman (Stonebowy’s place of residence) had a lot of music fans in attendance, with spectacular performances from artistes on the bill.

However, it did not end on a good note as some ‘assailants’ threw a knife through the tent in which Stonebwoy was at the moment, to cut his wife, Louisa Ansong.

The award-winning artiste took to his Facebook page few hours after the show to give account of what transpired.

“Knife cuts Tru My Tent Missed Me As Target And Cuts wifey on her back side! Minute Before I Hit Stage! But #IstillDeliveredForMyPeople and Rushed To The hospital right after I Got Off Stage… ?Cant express my gratitude enough to all who Came To make it possible.#ATTWC17 Record Broken! History Made….”

Even though it is unknown who threw the knife and who it was really targeted at, Stonebwoy believes he was the target of the act and the ‘assailants’ missed him, hence the cut on the back of his wife.

Stonebwoy and Louisa got married in June this year in a beautiful ceremony which saw an array of showbiz personalities in attendance.

The ‘Ashaiman to the World’ concert also had on stage controversial dancehall artiste and arch-rival of Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Patapaa, LilWin, Kumi Guitar, Joyce Blessing, Kofi Kinaata, Obibinii, King Promise, Fancy Gadam, Teephlow, Kurl Songx and Becca.

Stonebwoy is currently under the aegis of record label giant Zylofon Music.
